Department of Dermatology BBH
At Rawalpindi Medical University, our department stands at the forefront of skin health, blending cutting-edge medical care with advanced aesthetic solutions. We are dedicated to excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate training, equipping the next generation of dermatologists with the knowledge and skills to excel. Our robust programs FCPS, MD, Diploma in Dermatology, Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine and Certificate Courses, providing hands-on clinical experience, research opportunities, and specialized fellowships, fostering innovation and expertise. Key milestones include training residents, with ten already passing their fellowship exams to become consultants. We have built a strong postgraduate program with currently 10 residents in FCPS or MD tracks and 20 trainees in diploma programs, offering a robust academic schedule including topic presentations, journal clubs, mini-CEX, work-based Based and 360 Evaluations long and short cases under consultant supervision.
Beyond education, we proudly offer comprehensive dermatological care and state-of-the-art aesthetic services to our community. From diagnosing and treating complex Skin conditions to providing advanced procedures such as laser therapy, chemical peeling, micro-needling, and more, our expert team delivers personalized care to meet every patient’s needs. We are offering round the clock services at Benazir Bhutto Hospital and Holy Family Hospital. On the patient care side, we have scaled up to handle 200-300 OPD patients daily and perform 20-30 free procedures a day including skin biopsy, cautery, phototherapy, carbon dioxide laser, chemical peeling, TCA application, PRP, micro-needling, intralesional injections, Mesotherapy , Botox, filler and laser re-surfacing, while maintaining a 60-80% IPD bed occupancy rate and setting up advanced facilities like a state-of-the-art microscope for Dermato-pathology.
The international collaboration with Rutgers University USA, leadership of Dr.Babar K.Rao, Professor of Dermatology and Dermato-pathology has boosted research and global exposure, leading to numerous publications.
Dr Abdul Quddus Butt and Dr Shawana Sharif have worked meticulously for the development of this department up to the mark. Additionally, the department is emerging as one of the well-known research center of the university and has contributed a number of publications to the current literature and ongoing number of research projects
