Message by the Provincial Minister for Health

Dr. Yasmeen Rashid
Provincial Minister for Health, Government of Punjab, Pakistan.

Dear Faculty Members and the Students of Rawalpindi Medical University, I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to you on successful completion of the first two years of the Rawalpindi Medical University, an institution really close to my heart of which I was also a former faculty member many years ago when it was the Rawalpindi Medical College. Health is an ever changing field where on one hand the healthcare systems and treatment modalities are evolving with each passing day and on the other hand, the challenges related to health and healthcare provision are also emerging to test the knowledge, dedication and the zeal of the healthcare providers to serve the ailing humanity. The current era calls for all associated with this great service of providing healthcare to the nation, to stay abreast with the current trends in the healthcare and the advancements in the field of health research. This is only possible if our healthcare professionals develop the habit of doing research and focus their attentions on the evidence-based treatment of the patients. I am pleased to see that the Rawalpindi Medical University has from the first day of its inception has recognised the importance of inculcating the research culture in its students and providing all possible facilities for conducting research to its faculty members as well students for involving them in the development of healthy research culture in Pakistan. The development work done at the RMU during the last 2 years is exceptional and clearly depicts the resolve of the Vice Chancellor RMU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Umar, to make this institution an example for others to follow. Our government is striving to promote health and education in the country and on behalf of the government, I assure our full support to the Rawalpindi Medical University in it quest for becoming the best. I wish the RMU, faculty members and the students all the best for a wonderful future.

I feel humbled to present  “The RMU Annual Report 2018-19”, a brief roundup of the busy year but productive that we had, full of curricular as well as extracurricular activities. The Rawalpindi Medical University embarked upon its journey towards excellence in the fields of Health Education, Research and Healthcare delivery in May 2017. The Rawalpindi Medical University has its humble beginning as the Rawalpindi Medical College, established about four decades back in 1974. The college proved itself as one of the leading medical colleges of Pakistan, later upgraded to the status of the University by the Government of Punjab in 2017. What lied ahead was an uphill task of development of future vision, accreditation from HEC, development of infrastructure, curriculum, teaching programs etc. and a lot more, but we took the challenge. Ever since then, we are striving to achieve our goals in a systematic manner in lines with our 15 years strategic vision, The RMU Vision 2033, which was based on our dream for a medical university, that may become a pride for Pakistan in near future as center of excellence in research and healthcare delivery. In our journey towards the realization of that dream, the RMU feels proud on the core essence of effective team work as well as leadership qualities found in its each and every member, which is perhaps the main strength by which the RMU is meeting its targets by leaps and bounds.
